Well, here we are, finally wrapping up 2016, and I’m literally limping to the finish line. I had a really bad fall on my run last Saturday and am still slowly recovering. Since I’m used to having approximately ten trillion balls in the air at any given time, it’s been frustrating being largely homebound in the evenings in order to take off my bandages, put on shorts, and, as per doctor’s orders, “air out the wounds,” ick.
Though I wouldn’t have planned it this way, I probably have needed to slow down at some point, so I’m trying to take this all in with a mindful grain of salt. Until this past week, when was the last time I ever came straight home from work and set up shop on the couch with a view like this?
Thankfully my apartment is the most cozy recovery haven I could ask for.
I’ve hobbled out a handful of times, including for an adorable UVa Club of NY holiday cookie swap.
My contribution was a couple dozen cocoa peppermint cookies (not rice krispies; that was a typo), and it was really fun sampling everyone’s tasty treats. Yay, sugar for dinner. And obviously again for lunch the next day…! I’m looking forward to trying out some of the other participants’ recipes myself once I’ve come down from that sugar high.
Here’s the recipe I used: Chewy Double Chocolate Peppermint Cookies
I also made it out this week for one of my favorite holiday traditions: an annual fancy hotel holiday bar crawl that a friend of mine organizes. We get gussied up and have expensive cocktails at a few hotel bars that are all decked out in their holiday finest. Last night we ventured down to the Financial District and all proceeded to fall in love with the Beekman Hotel.
To counteract all of this decadence and inactivity (I’m going so stir crazy), the rest of the week’s consumption line up has looked more like this:
Oh, 2016. What else do you have left up your sleeve?
