Visitors to NYC are the best. They give me an excuse to show off the great things I love about the city, to explore or revisit parts of town that are outside my regular routine, and to indulge in plenty of delicious food and drink.
Kris got here on Friday night, and I also got to play hostess to my high school BFF, Jenna, and her husband Chris, who came to town the next afternoon. Basically as soon as they were off the plane, we hit the ground running.
Saturday’s itinerary: Theater rush tickets (after some [yes, multiple] long theater lines and some scrambling, Kris and I bought the last four rush tickets to the Once evening show!) -> Pick-A-Bagel bagel sandwiches -> Union Square Greenmarket -> Strand bookstore -> Washington Square Park -> V Bar -> Arturo’s pizza -> Once -> post-show drinks at Breeze

Sunday’s itinerary: Tipsy Parson brunch -> High Line stroll -> Meatpacking and West Village stroll -> Times Square -> If/Then -> Bryant Park -> Grand Central (including the whispering wall downstairs, and a 30 second interlude of “I’ll Fly Away” in that amazing acoustic space) -> Plaza Hotel Food Hall -> Thai food -> Kilo bar
Monday’s itinerary: Breakfast at my apartment -> Hell’s Kitchen Salvation Army shoe shopping adventure -> Lincoln Center -> Levain Bakery -> Central Park -> Boat Basin -> Hudson River kayaking -> Pommes Frites -> live music at Rockwood -> movie night at Bryant Park -> nighttime Times Square -> hotel bar drinks
I would repeat that agenda again in a heartbeat! What a blast. Not to mention I had some great company.
Of course we walked miles and miles every day (literally, each “->” above represents between 10 and 30 minutes of walking to the next destination) and managed to work up our appetites, but I’m still recovering from all those carbs and glasses of champagne. After my guests departed, my first food purchases were strawberries and broccoli. I’m off to Virginia for more fun shenanigans this weekend, so the frugal eating will commence next Monday…!
