The theme of the past week has been outdoors. Highlights include a visit to the ice cream truck (for a free scoop!), lounging in parks around the city, kayaking on the Hudson, yoga at Riverside Park, a free Central Park orchestra concert, and naturally plenty of picnicking in between.
I went to Trader Joe’s last Thursday for some picnic supplies, and my visiting sister and I enjoyed the food al fresco the next night as we watched the sun set over the Hudson River.
A few days later I had plans to meet a friend for an orchestra concert in Central Park and decided to re-purpose the leftover tomatoes and onion I had purchased a few days earlier to make some pico de gallo. I’m a wimp when it comes to spice, so even though I scraped out most of the seeds from the jalapeno I bought (I also picked up some cilantro and a lime to make the salsa), my mouth was slightly on fire as we ate and listened to beautiful string music! It was delicious, nonetheless.
As far as the budget goes, I had a completely unfair advantage with my sister visiting, as my extremely generous parents funded most of her trip, and therefore my weekend staycation as well. Since the bulk of my spending happens each weekend, it looks like I spent virtually nothing this week (and, well… I didn’t really spend anything). Thanks for the crepe at Le Grainne Cafe, the dessert at Mandarin Oriental, and the Pilobolus dance tickets, Mom and Dad!
